What is Periodontal Disease?A dental disease involving bone loss, pockets, and recession of the gums.

What is gingivitis?Inflammation limited to the gingivae.

What is Periodontitis? Periodontitis is characterized by pocket formation and bone loss.

What is the regular order of Procedures to Cure the Disease? The order of treatment strictly depends on the patient who will be receiving the treatment. Normally, the patient will undergo a new patient evaluation, scalings and root planings, scale with x-rays, and then finally, osseous surgery which is followed by evaluations.

Can I go back to work after my surgery? If not, how long should I wait?You can return to work as soon as possible, however, do not do any physical work or force until further notice. Excercise should also be ceased for a few days.

How long after surgery can I eat solid foods again?For the first 24 hours, drink only cold liquids.

How long after surgery can I brush my teeth again?Do not brush in that area until your post-operative evaluation, or until the doctor advises you to do so.

Should I worry if the surgical paste falls off?It is normal for the surgical paste to fall after approximately 24 hours. If the paste falls off before then, it is also normal, except if bleeding occurs. In this case, please contact our office.

Should I put cold or warm compresses on my face after surgery?After surgery you must apply ice every 20 minutes on and off to the area where the surgery took place. After 24 hours, warm compresses should be applied every 20-30 minutes.
